BEACH SERIES - EAST HAMPTON

The Historical Association of South
Haven's committee, .under Sue Hale's
chairmanship, did a superb job mount-
ing old photos, displaying dresses and
memorabilia and presenting videotaped
memories. The First Hebrew
Congregation synagogue, built in
1928, was open for tours; and the
small South Haven Jewish community
members were great hosts. They would
welcome donations to help maintain
the building (e-mail President Lou
Price,
lazarcha@aol.com).

Helping Mentors

On behalf of Jewish Family Service and
the Mentor Connection Advisory
Board, we would like to thank the JN
for highlighting our program in such a
beautiful way ("Two At A Time," June
23, page 55). There are thousands of
Oakland County youth who might
benefit from having a mentor.
In order to reach the parents of these
children, as well as identify people who
might like to mentor, we count on the
media for support. We have already
received a great response from the arti-
cle, including both prospective mentors
and youth.
As mentioned in the article, the fed-
eral grant money that currently funds
this program will soon no longer be
available. As a result, we are already
actively engaged in planning for the
future of Mentor Connection.
Interested community members who
would like to learn more about helping
to grow this program may contact
Michelle Malamis at Jewish Family
Service.

As a Holocaust survivor, it gives me
great pain to write this letter about
Anne Frank and the diary she wrote

while hiding with her family from Nazi
persecution.
As we know, ultimately most of her
family were caught and murdered in
the extermination camp. Only her
story has been told.
I question why the stories of the other
of thousands of Jewish and non-Jewish
children who were murdered in the
Holocaust have been forgotten while
only Anne Frank's story is repeated
over and over again. She was only one
of over a million children who were
murdered in the Holocaust.
We living survivors are also diaries
who witnessed the horrors of the
Holocaust. Perhaps it is not too late to
remember all the children who per-
ished in the Holocaust.

Clarification

It is not the policy of the Jewish News
to run "form letters." In the July 7
issue, the letters "A Positive Example"
(page 6) and "Board Sets Policy" (page
7) contained the same paragraph with
identical wording regarding support of
Executive Director David Gad-Harf of
the Jewish Community Council of
Metropolitan Detroit. Letters must be
original.

Corections

• In the Platinum article "And Kosher
Too!" (July 7, page 7), there was an
error in the phone number for Grille
173. The correct number is (248) 549-
4520.

• In "Dad's Influence" (July 7, page
54), Irwin Cohen is not currently
affiliated with Young Israel of Oak
Park. He is president of Agudas Yisroel
Mogen Abraham.

We prefer letters that relate to articles in the
Jewish News. We reserve the right to edit or
reject letters. Brevity is encouraged. Letter
writers generally are limited in frequency of
publication.
Letters must contain the name, address
and tide of the writer and a daytime tele-
phone number. Original copies must be
hand signed.
Mail to the Jewish News at 29200

MI 48034; fax to (248) 304-8885; or e-mail
to: letters@thejewishn.ews.com . We prefer
letters to be e-mailed.
