Here's To...

Kimberly L. Spaulding of Farmington
Hills received the Howard A. Donnelly
Award at the Wayne State University
commencement in Detroit. The award
recognizes outstanding contributions to
the university with regard to student
activities, leadership and service along
with superior academic achievement.
Spaulding received a bachelor of sci-
ence degree with a major in elementary
education. She was captain of the
women's hockey team for the last two
seasons, was twice named to the
College Hockey America Women's All-
Academic Team and has been named
to the WSU Athletic Director's honor
roll for academic achievement six
times. She serves as president of the
university's Student Athletic Advisory
Committee.

Four Michigan residents graduated
from the Jewish Theological Seminary
at its recent commencement in New
York. They are Julie Schwartz of West
Bloomfield — master of arts from the
Davidson School; Gregory Shill of
Ann Arbor — master of arts from the
Graduate School; Benjamin Gene of
West Bloomfield — bachelor of arts
from List College; Frederick
Grossman of Flint— rabbinic ordina-
tion and master of divinity from the
Rabbinical School.

Ed Kohl of West Bloomfield was
elected to the national board of
Volunteers for Israel-USA and has
been appointed the regional officer

for the states of Michigan, Ohio,
Indiana and Wisconsin. The organi-
zation is associated with Sar-El, which
administers the volunteer service pro-
oram in Israel. Kohl is available to
speak about his experiences with Sar-

United Way for Southeastern
Michigan honored individuals from
Metro Detroit at its Celebrate
Volunteers event. Awardees were
noted for outstanding volunteer serv-
ice.

active with the
Jewish
Community
Center, assisting
with Detroit
Jewry's Seminars
for Adult Jewish
Enrichment. She
Citrin
volunteers with
the Jewish
Federation's Alliance for Jewish
Education and works with Holocaust
survivors through Jewish Family
Service.
Myra Gross of
West Bloomfield
assisted with the
National Council
of Jewish Women's
Up and Out
Program, coordi-
nating outings and
arranging trans-
portation for senior Gross
citizens. She gives
time to Kadima, a Southfield-based
mental health agency providing serv-
ices or adults with
psychiatric disabili-
tY.
Richard Astrein of
Huntington Woods
was one of the
recipients of the
Heart of Gold
Award. He Ivorks
to support
Common Ground,
Astrein
helping youth and
families in crisis.
He he has been involved with the
Alzheimer's Association and is a mem-
ber of the board of trustees of
Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak.

Bloomfield was the scenery director
for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor
Dreamcoat at Hillel Day Schoolof
Metropolitan Detroit and head
