Bagels - Homemade Cream Cheese - Deli - Sandwiches

remembered by many as Al
Loewenstein's general manager at the
former Alfred's in Somerset Mall prior
to bringing his talents to Kruse &
Muer 13 years ago.
Hours are ... Monday-Thursday, 11-
10; Friday and Saturday, 11-11;
Sunday, 3-8 ... Also a Sunday brunch
from noon to 3 p.m., from a special
menu with items designed strictly for
this weekly occasion ... Guests may
also select from the regular menu if
they choose.
You might call Kruse & Muer on
Main a casual neighborhood restau-
rant with upscale touches but without
the price ... And the across Main
Street vision of Bill Kruse and Chuck
Muer another shrewd result from two
fine bow-tied restaurant minds.
IT'S FIRST fund-raising endeavor
was outside and drew just over 100
persons ... Number 10 in the series
recently had well over 200 with a
much better array of wine and food by
prestigious wineries and restaurants.
It was the latest wine-tasting event
by Culinary Studies Institute of
Oakland Community College-
Orchard Ridge Campus on Orchard
Lake Road, in its Ridgewood Cafe ...
with samplings of wine and food to
benefit scholarship and travel funds
for Culinary Studies students.
A much better layout too, with . the
wine tasting surrounded by dining choic-
es at about 13 stations ... plus an area for
seating at tables in an adjoining room.
Give a hand to Culinary Studies
Institute instructor Darlene Levinson,
chairperson, and her staff for another
magnificent job.
GOOD SERVER DEPT ... Moe
Algeithi at Carl's Chophouse on Grand
River in Detroit ... A lot of experi-
enced know-how ... At Carl's since the
Carl Rosenfield days, starting as a bus-
boy and becoming a top waiter.
HE MADE SURE his own private
list of winners wasn't left out ... and so
all candle-lighting honorees at his bar
mitzvah reception were given Oscars,
too.
Seth Adell Gold, son of Joanne and
Gary Tringale and Ronald and Susan
Gold, opened an envelope for each
honored guest and announced their
names in keeping with his "Seth Goes
Hollywood" theme at the Ritz-Carlton.
Inez Eaton applauded lustily as her
daughter, Edee Franklin, ace agent
with Max Broock Realty in
Birmingham, kept mom's shoulders
draped with napkins to keep out the
too-cool air-conditioning.
The bevy of young folks worked up
a sweat while dancing up a storm

though, and didn't mind the coolness
at all ... It got warmer as the evening
went on, which contributed much for
Seth's fine entrance into manhood.
PROCEEDS FROM THE recent
Phoenician Nights celebration of
Lebanese Culture, was for another of
those unsung organizations that do won-
derful work but are too little known.
Crowded event at Kabobgy restau-
rant in Southfield, coordinated by
Detroit News Tuesday society colum-
nist Chuck Bennett, was for the
Holiday Meals on Wheels program of
Detroit Area Agency on Aging ... with
folks enjoying sushi, Lebanese buffet,
belly dancing and togetherness.
Meals by DAAA are delivered to
seniors five days a week through feder-
al and state funding but not available
weekends and holidays ... This is why
the Holiday Meals on Wheels program
was created ... Now, when funds per-
mit, weekend meals and breakfast
boxes are also delivered.
Hopefully, the day will come when
the Detroit Area Agency on Aging will
be able to provide meals seven days a
week with regularity.
CONGRATS ... to Ralph and Gloria
Shook, at the Trowbridge in Southfield,
on their 70th wedding anniversary ...
Ralph is 95 and Gloria 90.
EYES AND EARS DEPT ... Sue •
Garfinkel, teller at Comerica Bank in
West Bloomfield, lauding the goodness
of Sky Deli ... Ilene and Marvin
Goldman with memories of the old
Jewish Community Center on
Holbrook and Woodward ... Leo
Goldberg telling of the fine new Senate
Coney Island on Haggerty between Five
and Six Mile ... Nate Light at a local
eatery sipping soup through a straw.
A SHAME THAT other people like
myself chose to miss both recent black
tie affairs because of date miscommu-
nications by two major fund-raising
groups ... Karmanos Cancer
Foundation and Ronald McDonald
House had them both on the same
night ... and slighting one for the
other is just not my bag.

QUESTION & ANSWER DEPT

... Q. "We've been searching all over
for Billy Rose. Do you know where he
is playing these days?" ... Sophie
Bluestone
A. "The Billy Rose Quartet is at
Mario's on Second in Detroit every
Saturday evening through June and
July. ❑
