Rachel Freedman Reed, daughter of
Nancy and Dr. Rob Reed, will be called
to the Torah as she
becomes a bat mitz-
vah, Saturday, May
28, at Temple
Israel. She is the sis-
ter of Estee, Leah
and Isaac. Her excit-
ed grandparents are
Joan and Richard
Freedman and
Gwen and Robert Reed.
Rachel attends Hillel Day School of
Metropolitan Detroit. She learned to be
a clown and did shows for Friendship
Circle and Children's Hospital of
Michigan, volunteered at Temple's Labor
Day picnic and planned an event that
raised funds for Magen David Adorn as
part of her mitzvah experience.
Sarah Jayne Richard will be called to
the Torah as a bat mitzvah Friday, May
27, at Temple Emanu-El. She is the
daughter of Karren and Jay Richard.
Her grandparents are Ruth Goldstein
and Barbara and Donald Richard. She is
also the granddaughter of the late David
Goldstein and the great-granddaughter
of the late Betty Creger.
Sarah is an honor student at Norup
School in Oak Park. For mitzvah proj-
ects, she volunteered at Silver Lake
Animal Rescue League, where she
remains a volunteer. In addition, Sarah
has been collecting school supplies for a
youth village, located outside Jerusalem,
that houses "at risk" children. She will
deliver these supplies herself when she
travels to Israel this summer with her
family and temple.
Marisa Ariel Seltzer (Nechama Z'kayna)
will become a bat mitzvah at Adat
Shalom Synagogue Saturday, May 28.
She is the daugh-
ter of Heidi and
Wesley Seltzer.
Sharing in the joy
will be her grand-
parents Nancy
and Stuart
Wilhelm and
Martha and Sam
Seltzer.
Marisa is an honor student at Abbott
Middle School in West Bloomfield. Her
mitzvah projects included collecting
money for the tsunami relief, packing
lunches for Yad Ezra in Berkley and
working with emotionally impaired and
learning disabled students in the Detroit
public schools.
Melanie Renee Shaw will celebrate her
bat mitzvah as she reads from the Torah
Saturday, May 28, at Temple Israel. She
is the daughter of
Hillary and Dr.
Randall Shaw. Her
sister is Lindsey and
her proud grand-
parents are Paula
and John Polan and
Miriam and Dr.
Alfred Shaw. Also
sharing in the sim-
chah will be her
great-grandmother Dorothy Aaron. She
is also the great-grandchild of the late
Donna and David Shaw and the late
David Aaron and the late Ruth Trivax
Waxer.
Melanie attends Berkshire Middle
School in Birmingham, where she is an
honor student. For her mitzvah projects,
she chose to volunteer at Yad Ezra and
to help in the building of a sukkah at a
JARC house.
