LEONARD POGER

lfrieda "Freddy" Shiffman
began her lifelong "career" as a
community volunteer early —
as a fourth-grader growing up in
Cleveland — raising money through
bake sales to help furnish a room at the
Jewish Home for th Aged.
After marrying and moving to
Detroit about 60 years ago, Mrs.
Shiffman quickly became involved in
many Jewish organizations here.
Daughter Susan Gershenson of
Franklin characterized her mother's

— she took care of everyone." That
included children, persons with disabil-
ities and the elderly — and everyone in
between.

Hills, died April 19, 2005, of heart fail-
