Alaina Pleatman and Blair Schwartz, both juniors at Andover High School, Melissa
Morof, a North Farmington senior, and Elani Ackerman, an Andover senior, at
BBG MBA Day.
Eighty members of B'nai B'rith Girls
(BBG) explored healthy lifestyles at a
recent Mind, Body, Attitude (MBA)
Day at Congregation Shaarey Zedek
West Bloomfield, B'nai Israel Center.
Participants learned about breast can-
cer, nutrition and weight control, and
stress management. Achayot BBG mem-
ber Mallory Eisenberg was regional
MBA chairperson.
Hadassah members Unda Belkown
and Susan Kay, a registered nurse, as
well as two young breast cancer sur-
vivors, spoke about the importance of
early cancer detection and treatment.
Kay demonstrated regular breast self-
examination using foam forms.
Psychologist Jennifer Freedman dis-
cussed stress as an everyday condition
and recommended ways to identify
stressors and feel better. She urged the
girls to avoid over-scheduling them-
selves, to take time "to take care of your-
self and to be open to something good
happening.
"You don't have to strive for perfec-
tion. There is no golden perfection out
there," Freedman said.
Nutritionist Beverly Price advocated
"mindful eating" to enable people "to lis-
ten to their body when they're full." She
urged enjoying good food and social
occasions without rushing their meals.
She said both eating too little and too
much are problems.
