holiday-themed parties down the road,
just not the regularly scheduled yearly
ones.
"It's been such a joy doing them and
I just can't give up being with the peo-
ple who entertain," she said.
These days, Shulman's piano is the
focus of the alcoved section off the
side of the room once used for the
parties. She has been a cantorial soloist
for 28 years, most recently at
Congregation Beth El in Windsor. She
is a Hebrew tutor at Temple Israel and
has been the featured soloist for the
Birmingham Bloomfield Symphony.
After singing for residents at Danto
Health Care Center in West
Bloomfield for a year, mainly in the
Alzheimer's unit, Shulman wants to
sing for hospice patients. "I'd like to
share my voice with those who need
it," she said.
But even as she looks to the future,
when she thinks of the music party
room — often referred to as
"Shulman Theater" — she likes to
think, "We made some amazing
memories here." ❑
