Activist To Be Feted

Labor Zionist Alliance and Na'amat
USA will host a
donor lunch to honor
Evelyn Noveck for
her longtime service
to the Jewish commu-
nity and Israel. The
] lunch, to benefit the
:1 LZA Education
Fund, will be held at
Noveck
12:30 Sunday, April
3, at Adat Shalom Synagogue.
J.J. Goldberg, editor-in-chief of the
New York-based national Jewish news-
paper the Forward will speak. He's the
author of the 1996 book Jewish Power:

Inside the American Jewish Establish-
ment.
The LZA Education Fund provides
scholarships and supports educational
programs consistent with the progres-
sive ideals of the Labor Zionist move-
ment. The fund allows the LZA to
support Habonim Dror and shlichah
(Israel emissary) Moran Lencer, who
works with the progressive youth

movement as well as the Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit.
The LZA also awards Israel scholar-
ships for Zionist leadership programs
and sponsors local educational and
community programs.
Noveck is the longtime president of
Na'amat USA, which supports women
and youth in the United States and
Israel through day care centers, legal aid
to victims of violence and assistance to
victims of employment discrimination.
She's a board member of the LZA and
the Labor Zionist Institute.
Noveck is a former officer of the
League of Jewish Women's Organiza-
tions, Jewish Community Council,
Jewish Historical Society of Detroit,
Women's American ORT and
Hadassah. She taught in the Detroit
public schools for 36 years. She and
her late husband, Harold, were the
parents of two sons. She now has four
grandchildren.

Adult Learning Slated

Ann Arbor
"Limud: A Community Symposium
for Jewish Learning," sponsored by
the Jewish Federation of Washtenaw
County and 16 community organiza-
tions, is a community-wide adult edu-
cation opportunity that will bring
together Jews from across the spec-
trum to learn together under one roof.
Sessions will be held Wednesday
evenings, March 30, April 6 and April
13 at the Jewish Community Center
of Washtenaw County.
Each night, there will be two class
sessions: 7-8 p.m. and 8:15-9:15 p.m.
During each hour-long session, multi-
ple classes will be offered and partici-
pants will be able to choose the course
option that most appeals to their par-
ticular interests.
