how many have eaten Rashi food?
During the weekend of Jan. 21 22,
Jews across the Detroit community are
invited to partake of a total Rashi
experience at Young Israel of Oak Park.
The festivities, commemorating the
900th yahrtzeit of one of Judaism's
most revered commentators, Rabbi
Shlomo Yitzchaki (Rashi), will include
shiurim (discourse) by noted local
scholars, a special "Rashi Kiddush" and
a Saturday night program for families.
"We're going to have a guy playing
Rashi," says Rabbi Reuven Spolter,
who came up with the idea after hear-
ing about a pro-
gram devoted to .

The $500,000
renovation was

ily.
The new look
of the room is
that it is filled

with light on the
outside, meant to
induce the feeling of the light of con-
necting to God on the inside," Rabbi
Yoskowitz said. "The real goal is to
find the light within our souls to con-
nect with God." ❑

Chumash, Tanach and Gemara revolu-
tionized scriptural study. "To study
Torah today without first considering
Rashi's commentary would be
unthinkable," says Rabbi Spolter.
But while many Jews know about
Rashi the religious leader, they know
little about Rashi the man. That's why
Rabbi Spolter is excited to offer a mul-
tifaceted program focusing on this
important Jewish historical and reli-
gious figure.
On Friday
night, Jan. 21, at
8:30 p.m., YIOP
will sponsor two
programs devoted
to "Rashi's influ-
ence on
Chumash." Rabbi
Nachman Levine
will speak at the
home of Dr.
Rabbi Spolter
David and
Susana
Kenigsberg, 16137 Sherfield Place,
Southfield, and Rebbetzin Rena
Spolter will speak at the home of
Rabbi Judah and Beth Isaacs, 25960
Marlowe Place, Oak Park.
Shabbat morning, a guest actor will
bring Rashi to life and join members at
a special "Rashi Kiddush" following
davening. That afternoon, at 4 p.m.,
Rabbi Shmuel Irons of the Kollel
Institute will give a halachic (Jewish
law) and historic perspective on "The
Life and Times of Rashi."
Finally, Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.,
families are invited to YIOP for a video
