our commitment to the city of
Detroit," he said.
The Robert Sosnick Award of
Excellence was established in memory
of Bob Sosnick, whose vision and
leadership led to the creation of the
Jewish Fund from the 1997 proceeds
from the sale of Sinai Hospital of
Detroit. The program selected for the
award must be a collaborative, innova-
tive and compassionate effort to
improve the quality of life of our most
vulnerable populations. Past winners
of the Sosnick Award are JVS/JAS-
Assisted Meals Program (2000), Kids
Kicking Cancer (2001), Jewish
Hospice & Chaplaincy Network
(2002) and DMC/Sinai-Grace
Hospital's Comprehensive Heart
Program (2003).
The award was presented at the Jewish
Fund's annual meeting on Dec. 9.
Other actions at the annual meeting
included election of two new board
members, Peter Alter and Mark
Hauser, and re-election of board mem-
bers Joel Dorfman, Michael Maddin,
Mervyn Manning, Robert Michaels,
Robert Naftaly, George Nyman and
David Page. Page was re-elected as
board chair and Robert Naftaly as vice
chair.
Their Memory Honored
B'nai B'rith Great Lakes Regional
Board and the Dorfman Chapel in
Farmington Hills have launched the
Kevod HaMet Society (Honoring Our
Deceased) for the purpose of placing
headstones on an estimated 3,000 to
4,000 unmarked Jewish graves in the
Metropolitan Detroit area.
The Kavod HaMet Society's Board of
Directors, consisting of Ralph
Woronoff, Mark Soltz and David
Aisner, representing B'nai B'rith, and
Alan Dorfman, Jonathan Dorfman, and
Jay Korelitz, representing the Dorfman
Chapel, are looking to raise communal
awareness and seek dignity for those in
unmarked graves. Their hope is that this
new project will expand and become a
nationwide activity.
The society is also looking for
"angels" to perform a mitzvah by
underwriting expenses or sponsor
monuments for the many deceased
whose families cannot be traced.
Anyone who wishes to make a tax-
exempt contribution or needs infor-
mation should call B'nai B'rith, (248)
646-3100, or Jonathan Dorfman,
(248) 406-6000.
