Style Magazine's Oakland County Favorite

his excellent creamy presentations of
both hummus and baba ganush ... and
the couscous soup.
But there does seem a difference ...
The items may be familiar in name and
looks, but Yossi's treatment of many
presents a seemingly more outstanding
taste.
Even kids' meals of beef burgers and
chicken nuggets also include a fine
Israeli dish, • grilled chicken shishlik.
Yossi's Israeli Cuisine concentrates on
an Israel taste culture that does not in
any way revert to the more Yiddish or
Jewish
wish styles of culinary presentations
that may be found in Israel as well.
About the only thing one may not
find on an Israeli menu are the Dutch
family pancakes brought back from
Holland, where Yossi and wife, Lisette,
lived for seven years before coming to
America ... Yossi's Israeli Cuisine is
probably the only Israeli restaurant in
the United States serving the delicious
true Dutch pancakes ... -banana, apple,
natural, with or without ice cream.
Yossi's Israeli Cuisine is open seven
days a week ... Monday through Friday
11 a.m.-9 p.m., Saturday and Sunday
noon-10 ... Present seating is for 50
with a nine-sear counter and outdoor
dining ro accommodate about 24 more
persons.
Yossi's head waitress Eleanor Ross was
born in Afula, Israel, and is married to
Ishai Ross, grandson of Florine (Mark)
and the late Bill Ross ... Yossi's brother,
Ram Benjamin, is his manager.
The decor at Yossi's Israeli Cuisine is
as it certainly should be, with the flag
of Israel on a wall, alongside a pictorial
tribute to the late Israeli astronaut Ilan
Ramon, framed pictures of Haifa,
Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Jaffa, Eilat, street
signs of Israel, etc.
One of Yossi's personal culinary cre-
ations, a zucchini soup with his own
mixture of spices, presents a tastily
delightful experience ... as does his
treatment of shnirzel, chicken breast
lightly covered with corn meal.
Yossi's Israeli Cuisine brings an
authentic and distinctive dining experi-
ence to the many who have heard of
the food of Israel with its diverse twists
... and those who have already enjoyed
the fare with hopes of local accessigility.
Its authenticity, is being highly received
and certainly very much welcomed.
AFTER THE FIRST of the year,
present locale of Tirami Su Italian
restaurant on Orchard Lake Road
between 13 and 14 Mile in Farmington
Hills, will become a delicatessen.
It will be the second home of
Gateway Deli ... and solely owned by
Peter Bershaj, who will also retain co-

ownership of Gateway on Lahser in
Southfield with his partner there,
George Gojcaj.
FIRST TIME IN 22 years that it has
been remodeled ... and Ginopolis' On
the Grille, 12 Mile and N•liddlebelt in
Farmington Hills, has made the need a
good one ... The last changeover was
from a club-like spot ... Altering is now
in both the dining room and bar area.
A modern open look has taken over
in the dining sector with striking colors
that include five paintings by Leroy
Neiman.
IT MAY SEEM unusual for them,
but not really ... putting out a cook-
book.
Tamara and Eugene Friedman at
Tarnara Spa in Farmington Hills have
been yearly supporters of the Military
Moms organization ... and have come
out with an interesting recipe-laden
tome.
A frill 100% of the proceeds from
sales of their United
Stand cook-
book goes to assist military personnel ...
and features more than 500 recipes that
include those from military men and
women and local television personali-
ties.
Even one of Eugene's luscious recipes
is included ... "Eugene's Barley Soup."
The United tale Stand cookbook is on
sale for $15 at Tamara Spa, Northwest:
ern Highway between Middlebelt and
14 Mile ... (248) 855-0474.
CONGRATS ... To barrister Burt
Isaacs on his 70th birthday ... To
Richard Beckwith on his 50th birthday. -
FIRST PUBLICATION by the
