EverWood X-tra
They look like shutters. Work like
blinds. To look at them you'd swear
they're real wood shutters. Buy you
can open and close the slats, or raise
and lower them, just like a blind.
Best of all, they're EverWood®,
an alternative wood blind with the
character and warmth of real wood.
Which means they won't crack, peel,
warp or fade. Even in humid areas
like the kitchen or bathroom.

Phyllis Weeks, librarian at the Novi
Public Library, said of the guide, "It's a
wonderful companion guide that gives
secular and religious school teachers
alike a book guide that is inclusive,
professional, and easy to use.
"Too often, school librarians, espe-
cially, are trying to juggle so many dif-
ferent responsibilities that they don't
have the time to do research into the
background of a book or create their
own comprehension guides to give to
teachers who also don't have the oppor-
tunity to create such materials.
"A guide like this one includes activi-
ties that children will find interesting
and at the same time direct their atten-
tion to the critical elements of the
book — education made painless."
The guide also includes activities and
projects for teachers. It tells what hap-
pened to all the real people upon
whom the characters are based. It also
has information about the life of the
author, who was born in 1904.
Taylor actually wrote her first book
as a way to teach her daughter about
life on the Lower East Side in the early
1900s. She never thought to have it
published — but her husband did.
Unbeknownst to Taylor, her hus-
band submitted his wife's text to a con-
test sponsored by Follett Books. Taylor
won the contest, and her first book was
published in 1951.
The series also includes All-of-a-Kind
Family Downtown (1972), All-of-a-
Kind _Family Uptown (1957), Ella of
All-of-a-Kind-Family (1978) and More
All-of-a-Kind Family (1954).
Next month, Emerson College in
Boston will present a world premiere
of All-of-a-Kind Family, a musical based
on Taylor's series. El

Autumn is here, at last, and with it
the most fun anyone in the world
could have.
The puzzle below contains a phrase
about the wonders of fall. Letters are
hidden between other words and let-
ters, but run in order from right to .
left (you'll just have to jump a few to
find the phrase). Once you've found a
word, write it in the blanks.
The solution will appear in next
week's AppleTree.
Are you good at word searches,
mazes, secret codes? Then AppleTree's
"Are You Puzzled?" is perfect for you!
If you solve this week's challenge
(open to adults and children of all
ages), send your solution, along with
your name and city of residence, to
arrive no later than noon Tuesday,
Oct. 26, to: I Found It! c/o
AppleTree, The Jewish News, 29200
