ing at local reptile and bat conserva-
tion organizations, reflecting his
interest in his bar mitzvah hero Dr.
Sam Wasser, field zoologist and con-
servationist.
Shayna Danielle Danto, daughter of
Robin and Dr. Jeffrey Danto, will read
from the Torah on Friday, Sept. 3, at
Temple Israel. She is the sister of
Sandy, Michael and Allison and the
grandchild of
Joan Danto and
the late Dr. Bruce
Danto. She is also
the grandchild of
the late Shirley
and Dr. Morris
Hutton.
Shayna attends
Orchard Lake
Middle School in
West Bloomfield, where she is an
honor student. As part of her mitzvah
project, she made donations to 13
charities that had meaning to her,

Rachel Amy Devries will celebrate her
bat mitzvah on Saturday, Sept. 4, at
Camp Maas in Ortonville, -through
the auspices of Adat Shalom
Synagogue. She is the daughter of
Jeffrey Devries and the late Sheri
Devires and sister
of Danny and
David. Proud
grandparents are
Helen Devries,
and Lawrence and
Barbara Traison.
She is also the
granddaughter of
the late Robert
Devries.
Rachel began the celebration of her
bat mitzvah by reading from the Torah
on Masada during a family trip to
Israel this past summer.
Rachel is an honor student at Hillel
Day School of Metropolitan Detroit
in Farmington Hills. Her mitzvah
activities have included volunteering
every year at Adat Shalom's Housing
the Homeless project and participat-
ing in Hillel's JARC home visits and
the Dor L'Dor intergenerational pro-
gram.
