Marc Kay has been
named director of high
school and youth at _
Congregation Shan rey
Zedek.
Kay has 20 years'
experience working in
the Jewish community.
Kay
Most recently, he had a
similar role at Adat Shalom Synagogue.
He is also dean of students at Lakeland
High School in White Lake and servess
on the boards of Hillel of Metro Detroit
and Hillel Day School in Farmington
Hills. He worked at Tamarack Camps
for 11 years.
He will revamp the curriculum at
Shaarey Zedek to allow for more hands-
on experiences and topics relevant to
high school students.
Continuing programs will include
annual class trips. Also planned are an
11th grade Habitat for Humanity
February-break trip, a 12th grade trip to
Washington, D.C., and a ski retreat for
all 8th- to 12th-grade students.

The Kolel Moshe Lifelong Learning
Institute of Congregation B'nai Moshe
is offering free, adult classes on the Days
of Awe.

At noon Aug. 16, B'nai Moshe Rabbi
Elliot Pachter will discuss "The Month
of Elul — Our Spiritual Gateway to the
Days of Awe."
At noon Aug. 23, Rabbi Herbert
Yoskowitz of Adat Shalom Synagogue
will teach "Kaddish and Yizkor —
Accepting God's Justice and Affirming
Life During the Days of Awe." The text-
book will be his book, The Kaddish
Minyan ($12.9 5 ).
At noon Aug. 30, B'nai Moshe
Cantor Earl Berris will discuss "Jewish
Mystical Elements in Our High Holiday
Liturgy." Students may bring a brown-
bag dairy or parve lunch.
At 10:30 a.m. Aug. 23 and 30, Barry
Levine will teach "Doing the Work of
Teshuvah — The Wisdom of
Maimonides."
Two two-part classes will be offered at
10 a.m. Aug. 22 and 29. Ahuva
Newman will teach "Keyword Hebrew
for the High Holidays," using Tiku
Shofar ($12). Marc Sussman and anoth-
er B'nai Moshe lay leader will teach
"Leading the Congregation in Prayer on
the Days of Awe — An Experiential
Discussion."
