Sudan Genocide Hit
Jerusalem/JTA
Israel's Holocaust
memorial urged the world to stop mass
killings in Sudan.
In a statement, Yad Vashem said the
news from Darfur, Sudan is deeply dis-
turbing and that the world must act
"before it is too late."
The Sudanese government is widely
believed to be abetting genocidal acts car-
ried out by Arab militias against African
tribes.

Lantos Defends Review
Washington/JTA
Rep. Tom Lantos, D-
Calif., is angry the U.S. State
Department opposes a plan for an annu-
al review of global anti-Semitism.
Lantos wrote to Secretary of State
Colin Powell suggesting that the level of
hostility to Jews around the world war-
rants an amendment to the Global Anti-
Semitism Review Act, currently under
debate in the House of Representatives.
The State Department says an anti-
Semitism report would appear to afford
special status to one group.

Israel Extends Law
Jerusalem/JTA
Israel's Cabinet
extended by six months a controversial
law that prevents Palestinians who marry
Israelis from becoming Israeli citizens.
On Sunday, the Cabinet also agreed to
establish a committee to draft a revised
version of the law. The law has come
under international condemnation, with
Amnesty International calling it racist.
Israeli officials say some version of the
law is necessary for security reasons.

San Francisco/JTA —Two pitchers for
the San Francisco Giants baseball team
have cleats with the Hebrew word for
luck on them.
Scott Eyre and Wayne Franklin placed
the word mazal on their Nike cleats after
seeing the phrase used by a Jewish char-
acter played by actor Alec Baldwin in the
recent move Along Came Polly, according
to j., San Francisco's Jewish newsweekly.
Neither men, both of whom are relievers,
have worn the Jewish cleats on the
mound.
Israeli Judge Killed
Tel Aviv/JTA --: An Israeli judge
involved in lawsuits filed by terrorism
victims against the Palestinian Authority
was killed.
Adi Azar, a judge with Tel Aviv District
Court, was shot dead by unknown
assailants outside his home in Ramat
Hasharon on Monday. Police said they
assumed a criminal motive but had not
ruled out the possibility that Arabs car-
