Honor Communal Service

To honor the contribution of out-
standing professionals in service to
the Jewish community, the Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit
invites nominations for the 17th
annual Mandell L. and Madeleine H
Berman Award.
Those eligible are Jewish commu-
nal professionals employed by
Federation and its family of agencies
who have been working in the
Detroit Jewish community for at
least five years.
Nominees must have made a sig-
nificant contribution to the general
good of the Jewish community,
demonstrating the highest standards
of professionalism, knowledge and
dedication in the services they pro-
vide.
Nominations for the Berman
Award are due Friday, June 25. For

AJC Honors Torreano

Gail Torreano, president of SBC
Michigan, will receive the 2004
Institute of Human Relations
Distinguished Leadership Award in
recognition of her exemplary work
in civic and business affairs in
Michigan from the American Jewish
Committee Metropolitan Detroit
Chapter 6 p.m., Monday, June 21,
at the Atheneum Suite Hotel in
Detroit.
Torreano is responsible at SBC for
regulatory, legislative, and external
affairs, as well as community and
industry relations throughout the
state of Michigan. She is chair of the
board for the Detroit Regional
Chamber of Commerce and a board
member of Detroit Renaissance.
The evening's co-chairs are Dennis
W. Archer, Harold Beznos, Jeffrey
R. Caponigro, Peter Cummings,
Edward Deeb, Tarik Daoud, Debbie
Dingell, Denise Illitch, Alan E.
Schwartz and Frank Stella. AJC din-
ner chair is Frederick H. Marx.
Advance reservations are required.
Dinner tickets begin at $250 and
tables at $2,500. Funds generated
from this event help to underwrite
local metro Detroit chapter pro-
grams and intergroup activities
throughout Michigan.
