Band Makes Radio Debut

The five members of the Ann Arbor-
based band Tally Hall will get its first
national exposure in Detroit when they
play between segments on The Mitch
Albom Show from 3-6 p.m. May 7 on
WJR Radio (760 AM).
"The biggest crowd we've ever played
in front of was 700 or 800 people live.
This is probably the biggest thing we've
ever done," said band member Rob
Cantor, a University of Michigan junior
from West Bloomfield who does vocals
and plays guitar.
Members come from Bloomfield
Hills, West Bloomfield, Grosse Pointe
and Lebanon, N.J. Two members are
Jewish.
"I think we're probably the only area
band to consciously incorporate styles
ranging from Doo Wop to rap to con-
temporary concert music," said Andrew
Horowitz from Lebanon, a U-M junior

who does vocals, keyboards and percus-
sion. We work as a supportive creative
team with divergent interests that com-
bine to create the overall product."
The band has a CD coming out May
14 that will be available on their Web
site, vvvvw.tallyhall.com
"It's exciting when you start seeing the
same people over and over at concerts,
and they genuinely care about your
music and are able to sing along and
participate in the experience," said
Horowitz, who studies classical compo-
sition.
"Having fan support gives us that
extra push towards reaching for some-
thing even greater than what we do
right now," he said.

Frankel Fund Art

have an internationally recognized art
collection containing seminal modern
and contemporary works as well as con-
temporary ceramic pieces, which often
are lent for exhibition worldwide.
"Thanks to Director James Steward's
visionary leadership, UMMA has enter-
ed the top ranks of university art muse-
ums in the country," Maxine Frankel
said. 'As alumni and arts patrons, Smart
and I enthusiastically share his vision
and commitment to the transformative
educational mission of the museum.
"With this gift, we support the muse-
um's remarkable institutional growth
and its increasing prominence as a
leader in developing exhibitions and
other projects that link scholarship with
the community."

The Maxine and Stuart Frankel
Foundation of Bloomfield Hills recently
gave the University of Michigan
Museum of Art its largest donation in
the museum's history — $10 million.
The donation puts the museum closer
to its goal of raising $35 million for a
new wing, doubling its present size. The
55,000-square-foot space will be named
the Maxine and Stuart Frankel and
Frankel Family Wing, pending approval
by the U-M Board of Regents. The
expansion will add galleries, art storage,
study areas, an auditorium, classrooms
and improved visitor amenities.
Maxine and Stuart Frankel, U-M
graduates, serve on governing boards of
many nonprofit institutions. They also
