DETROIT JEWISH NEWS

The National Council of Jewish
Women Greater Detroit Section has
applications for $1,000 to be shared
by recipients of the 59th annual
Jewish Youth Awards.
To qualify, the applicant must be a
high school senior; have at least a
3.0 academic average; have formal
Jewish education; be actively
involved in the community; and
submit a one-page, typed essay
answering the question, "How Does
Media Presentation of Jewish Issues
Affect You and Your Peers?"
Qualified applicants will be inter-
viewed by a panel of judges.
Applications and essays must be
received by Jan. 30, 2004.

DINO Plans
Convention

B'nai B'rith Youth Organization
(BBYO) members will hold their
annual regional convention Dec. 24-
29 at the Jewish Community Center
in West Bloomfield.
There will be chapter competitions
in 20 categories.
This year's convention will include
Shabbat services, an expanded com-
munity service project and Shabbat
elective programs.
Two evening events, the song con-
test and talent show, will be open to
the public. The song contest will be
8:30-10:15 p.m. Wednesday, Dec.
24, at the JCC. The talent show will
be 8-10:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, at
Congregation Shaarey Zedek
Southfield.
This year's talent show will include
a special booth to encourage BBYO
alumni to stay in contact with the
organization and become volunteer
chapter advisers.
