t the Conservative movement
biennial conference in Dallas last
month, attention was focused on
the 10 percent drop in member-
ship that showed up in the recent National
Jewish Population Study compared with
the study in 1990.
Rather than panic, conference partici-
pants decided to be proactive and concen-
trate on solutions instead. Building on the
movement's position in the middle of the
three major streams of Judaism, they iden-
tified education, youth programming, out-
reach and promoting adherence to Jewish
law as important strengths to build upon.
Our story looks at the Conservative
movement locally and nationally and
where it's heading.
