B'nai B'rith Great Lakes Region will
celebrate B'nai B'rith's 160th
anniversary on Sunday, Sept. 7, at
Adat Shalom Synagogue with dinner,
entertainment and dancing.
ADL, BBYO, Hillel of Metro
Detroit, the Jewish Community
Council, the Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit and the Jewish
News will co-sponsor the event.
The evening will include a recog-
nition of the region's oldest lodge,
Pisgah Chapter; the lodge of
Holocaust survivors, Einstein
Chapter; past regional presidents;
and 50-year members. There will
also be a reading of the proclamation
declaring October as B'nai B'rith
Month in Michigan, presented by
the governor's office.
Event co-chairs are Jerry Olson
and Ralph Woronoff. The charge is
$25 per person. For information,

The Dorothy and Peter Brown
Jewish Community Adult Day Care
Program in Southfield and West
Bloomfield is seeking volunteers to
help enrich the lives of individuals
with Alzheimer's disease and related
dementia disorders.
Volunteers are needed to provide
one-to-one interaction with partici-
pants; assist with community out-
ings; share their special talents such
as music, gardening, cooking, baking
and arts and crafts; and perform data
entry to track services and partici-
pant satisfaction.
A free, four-part training series for
interested individuals is slated for
10-11:30 a.m., Sept. 4, 11, 18 and
25, at the Fleischman Residence in
West Bloomfield. The training will
teach people how to communicate
effectively and assist individuals with
memory loss. Those who complete
the series will earn a volunteer cer-
tificate in dementia care.

Hillel Plans
Golf Classic

The eighth annual Hillel Day School
Golf Classic will be held on
Monday, Sept. 8, at Franklin Hills
Country Club.
This event supports Hillel Day
School scholarship programs.
Registration and lunch for the 18-
hole event will begin at 11:30 a.m.
with a 1 p.m. shotgun start. Dinner
is included.
New this year will be a Women's
nine-hole tournament. Registration
and continental breakfast for the
ladies will begin at 8:45 a.m. with a
9:30 a.m. shotgun start followed by
lunch.
The cost for the 9-hole event is
$150 and $275 for the 18-hole
event. Sponsorship opportunities are
available.

Nitsana Darshan-Leitner will speak
at a leadership reception of
American Red Magen David for
Israel on Wednesday, Aug. 27, at
Wabeek Country Club in Bloomfield
Hills. The event is being held in
advance of the annual dinner dance
honoring Debbie and Mickey Stern,
and hosted by Judy and Alan
Granader and Drs. Margo and
Douglas Wolf.
Darshan-Leitner serves as director
of Shurat HaDin. Through her legal
work, hundreds of Israeli terror vic-
tims and their families are being
given the opportunity to fight back
against Palestinian suicide bombers
and gunmen.
