And much has been made of the
struggle faced by Israel, the region's
only democracy, and the Bush
administration's seeming inability
to compare terror against
Israel with Al Qaida's terror
against the United States
— easily comparable in
my book.
At the same, time,
President Bush has
proven a great friend of
Israel in other ways; with-
out his friendship, Israel
would be even more vulnerable
in its battle to preserve Jewish
statehood.
This Fourth of July, heralding
America's Declaration of Independence
on July 4, 1776, let us exalt in the free-
doms unfurled and symbolized by the Stars
and Stripes. And let us thank God that
Israelis can count on America during their
wars on terror. The Jewish News office will be
closed July 4 in celebration of the national
holiday.
Wishing you a safe, happy holiday and
July 4th surprises about
Jews and the United States.
