The Jewish Women's Foundation of
Metropolitan Detroit (JWF), which
enhances the lives of Jewish women
and girls through philanthropy,
announced its 2003 grant recipients.

$8,500 to JCare Women's Health,
$7,500 to Healing Waters, $7,000 to
Opening Windows for Widows,

Camp, $5,200 to Sarah's Tent, $5,000
to Jewish Ensemble Theatre, $5,000
to Women in Pastoral Care and
$5,000 to Mavoi Saturn (Israel).
The 2003 grant made to JCare
Women's Health will extend the
hours of the JCare nurse, allowing
her to offer senior women residents
of Jewish Apartments and Services
preventive care such as educational
seminars, health screenings, simple
blood work, nutrition information
and flu shots.
The Healing Waters grant provides
support for a spiritual experiential
program of seminars for women
interested in a personal mikvah ritual
to mark their transition from cancer
treatment to healing.
The grant to Opening Windows for
Widows program (through Jewish
Home and Aging Services) will pro-
vide professionally facilitated support
groups for women who are both
Holocaust survivors and widows and
for their families.
Support for Single Mother Family
Camp (through Single Jewish Parents
Network-Alliance for Jewish
Education) provides a camp for single
Jewish mothers and their children in
a Jewish-based educational and recre-
ational environment.
JWF's backing for Sarah's Tent
sponsors a two-year curriculum that
provides support and education for

women who are new to Judaism,
either through marriage to a Jew or
because they were born Jewish but
had minimal Jewish education.
The Jewish Ensemble Theatre grant
will support the creation, casting and
production of a performance piece
and related study guides for upper
elementary and middle school girls.
For a second year, JWF funds for
Women in Pastoral Care (through
Jewish Hospice and Chaplaincy
Network) will support the salary of a
woman rabbi who will continue to
increase pastoral care services to
women and increase the connection
between women.rabbis in the Detroit
metropolitan area.
Mavoi Saturn seeks to eliminate the
problem of agunot, women who are
unable to obtain a Jewish divorce.
Margot Halperin is JWF founding

chair, Beverly Liss; associate chair,
Elyse Foltyn; treasurer, Patti Baum;

to board membership for five years.
