2003 LEXUS L13430 4.3-liter, V8, Leather, Moonroof, HID Headlamps, Premium Sound System Jewish Women's Foundation Names Grant Recipients The Jewish Women's Foundation of Metropolitan Detroit (JWF), which enhances the lives of Jewish women and girls through philanthropy, announced its 2003 grant recipients. Foundation trustees awarded $8,500 to JCare Women's Health, $7,500 to Healing Waters, $7,000 to Opening Windows for Widows, $6,800 to Single Mother Family Camp, $5,200 to Sarah's Tent, $5,000 to Jewish Ensemble Theatre, $5,000 to Women in Pastoral Care and $5,000 to Mavoi Saturn (Israel). The 2003 grant made to JCare Women's Health will extend the hours of the JCare nurse, allowing her to offer senior women residents of Jewish Apartments and Services preventive care such as educational seminars, health screenings, simple blood work, nutrition information and flu shots. The Healing Waters grant provides support for a spiritual experiential program of seminars for women interested in a personal mikvah ritual to mark their transition from cancer treatment to healing. The grant to Opening Windows for Widows program (through Jewish Home and Aging Services) will pro- vide professionally facilitated support groups for women who are both Holocaust survivors and widows and for their families. Support for Single Mother Family Camp (through Single Jewish Parents Network-Alliance for Jewish Education) provides a camp for single Jewish mothers and their children in a Jewish-based educational and recre- ational environment. JWF's backing for Sarah's Tent sponsors a two-year curriculum that provides support and education for women who are new to Judaism, either through marriage to a Jew or because they were born Jewish but had minimal Jewish education. The Jewish Ensemble Theatre grant will support the creation, casting and production of a performance piece and related study guides for upper elementary and middle school girls. For a second year, JWF funds for Women in Pastoral Care (through Jewish Hospice and Chaplaincy Network) will support the salary of a woman rabbi who will continue to increase pastoral care services to women and increase the connection between women.rabbis in the Detroit metropolitan area. Mavoi Saturn seeks to eliminate the problem of agunot, women who are unable to obtain a Jewish divorce. Margot Halperin is JWF founding chair. To become members of the JWF board, women make minimum corn- mitments of $10,000, entitling them to board membership for five years.
