BEATRICE "BEA"
LEVENTEN, 84, of Southfield,
died May 9, 2003.
Mrs. Leventen found it necessary
to begin working at age 14, earning
money so that she and her young
sisters, Mildred, Yetta, and Lorraine
would have food
on the table.
These experi-
ences gave her
the job and eco-
nomic training
she never forgot.
She became cog-
nizant of people's
troubles and was
always helping
Leventen
others.
Mrs. Leventen
was also under-
standing of the plights of defense-
less animals and birds and worked
hard to make their lives more bear-
able. She was always feeding the
birds and would seek out injured
dogs, birds and cats to assist.
Malcolm and Bea Leventen were
married 56 years and loved to trav-
el. Their many trips to Israel were
always remembered.
Mrs. Leventen's administrative
abilities helped her husband's build-
ing business grow. She was very
good with numbers and would
quote from memory anything any-
one would need to know.
Mrs. Leventen volunteered for
1
2 /, years during World War II as a
nurse's aid at Henry Ford Hospital
in Detroit and started her family
after the war ended.
She was one of the early members
of Shereuth League, a Jewish
Women's charitable organization
dedicated to helping needy chil-
