n Jan. 16, the Circle of
Friends of the Child Abuse
and Neglect Council of
Oakland County held its sev-
enth annual luncheon at the Townsend
Hotel, honoring attorney Henry Baskin,
principal of the Baskin Law Firm, P.C.
of Birmingham. Working with the com-
munity, the council advocates for child
safety and is a leading resource in pre-
venting child abuse as well as protecting
children through education, interven-
tion, treatment and research.
"It shouldn't hurt to be a child," began
Child Abuse and Neglect Council
Executive Director Patricia Rosen.
Introducing Baskin, Congresswoman
Candace Miller noted, "His trademark
is caring."
Baskin not only helped develop the
council's financial and professional pres-
ence in the community, but led the
movement to create Care House, their
state-of-the-art building.
Baskin spoke of domestic abuse, vio-
lence and incest as problems he always
has seen in his practice, but they are
now "out of the family lock box." He
