Sterling:

in the JARC building in Farmington
Hills two days after the fire. The
arrangement was sealed with a hand-
shake and a hug between him and Joyce
Keller, JARC executive director.
Other JNSouthfield locations have
included the Honeywell Building at
Nine Mile and Southfield roads, an
office building on Civic Center Drive
near Northwestern Highway and the
one destroyed by fire on Franklin Road
near 11 Mile.
The INs new home has more than 50
percent more useable square footage
than the Franklin Road facility, Horwitz
says. He adds with a sigh of relief that.
the building is brick and steel — and
has fire sprinklers. The Franklin Road
building was made of wood. -
The new location also will house all
past issues of the paper on microfilm,
which will be available to researchers.
"The fire made us all realize how we
take the Jewish News for granted," says
David Gad-Harf, executive director of
the Jewish Community Council of
Metropolitan Detroit. "We better
understand and appreciate the valuable
role it plays in weaving together our
Jewish community. And the move to
larger offices represents a new phase in
the history of the community" I:11
