MAE BRODSKY MOSS, 83, of
West Bloomfield, died Jan. 8, 2003.
Mrs. Moss was among the first resi-
dents at the Meer Jewish
Apartments. Having organized the
Meer Book Club,
she was fondly
known as the "Book
Lady."
Mrs. Moss also
participated in the
Meer Yiddish Club.
Speaking only
Yiddish until she
started school, she
Mae Moss
returned to her
mamaloschen (moth-
er tongue) later in
life to translate for Russian immi-
grants. She also spoke Yiddish to
Alzheimer's patients at the Brown
Center, where she was named
Volunteer of the Year 2000.
Mrs. Moss is survived by her lov-
ing daughters and sons-in-law,
Marilynn and Harvey Farber of
Philadelphia, Penn., Lynda Brodsky
and Jacob Pomeranz of Chicago,
Annett Weiss of Farmington Hills,
Sharon Moss; son and daughter-in-
law, Barry and Elayne Moss; grand-
children, Lianna (Michael Lower)
Farber, Ethan Farber, Michael
Pomeranz, Melanie (Scott) Gorman,
Lee Weiss, Hilary Moss and Jeremy
Moss; great-grandson, Noah
Gorman. She was the beloved wife
of the late Leo Brodsky, the late Isak
Offner and the late Sol Moss; moth-
er-in-law of the late Michael Weiss.
Interment at Machpelah
Cemetery. Contributions may be
made to the Mae Moss Memorial
Fund at the Meer Jewish
Apartments, 6760 W. Maple Road,
West Bloomfield, MI 48322 or to a
charity of one's choice.

SIDNEY J. NEWMAN JR., 84, of

Southfield, died Jan. 7, 2003. He
was a CPA and managing partner of
the Detroit office of Laventhal-
Horwath and senior partner of
Newman, Steinberger and
Bornstein.
Mr. Newman managed Laventhal-

Horwath from 1968 to his retire-
ment at 65 in 1983. From 1949-
1959, he was a partner with
Eisenberg, Newman and Steingerger
and was the founding and senior
partner of Newman, Steinberger and
Bornstein from 1959 until 1968,
when they merged with Laventhal-
Horwath. Mr. Newman was a mem-
ber of B'nai B'rith, member of the
Jewish War Veterans and past com-
mander of the Shalom Post. He was
also a past president of the Temple
Israel Brotherhood.
Mr. Newman is survived by his
wife, Helen Newman; daughter,
Joan Behrmann of Illinois; son,
Lawrence J. Newman of West
Bloomfield; grandchildren, Marcy
and Jeffrey Frank, Rebecca
Behrmann; Simon Behrmann, Brian
Newman, Eric Newman; sister and
brother-in-law, Sylvia and Leonard
Forrest; sister-in-law, Alice
Blumberg. He was the dear brother-
in-law of the late Richard Blumberg,
the late Shirley Persin and the late
Eddie Persin.
Interment at Beth El Memorial
Park. Contributions may be made to
the Tobias Family Fund at Temple
Israel; the Alzheimer's Association or
the Jewish Vocational Services.

BEN OSTROW, 87, of Farmington
Hills, died Jan. 13, 2003.

He is survived by his sister,
Marion Wirt. Mr. Ostrow was the
beloved husband of the late Mollie
Ostrow.

Rapoport, Dena Rapoport. Mrs.
Rapoport was the beloved wife of
the late Abraham Rapoport; loving
mother of the late Ralph Rapoport.

ISABELLE ROSENBLATT, of

Bothell, Wash., died Jan. 6, 2003.
She was a member of Hadassah.
