ABRAHAM LEVINE, 98, of Detroit,
died Nov. 5, 2002. He was a musician
and educator who gave
private instruction on
the viola, violin, cello,
flute, saxophone, clar-
inet and piano. He
also performed profes-
sionally starting in the
silent movie era.
Mr. Levine graduat-
ed from Northern
High School and
Wayne State
Abraham
University. He was
Levine
devoted to chamber
music and continued
to perform with colleagues and students
until his death.
He is survived by his sons, Daniel of
Dallas, Texas, David (Naomi) Levine of
Huntington Woods. He was the husband
of the late Ruth (Elkind) Levine; brother
of the late Earl (Mary) Levine.
Contributions may be made to Young
Audiences of Michigan or the Southfield
Philharmonic, both at 24350 Southfield
Road, Southfield, MI 48075. Memorial
arrangements are being completed.

SARA LEVINE, 84, of Farmington Hills,
died Nov. 10, 2002.
She is survived by

Woods, died Nov. 11,
2002. She received
her master's degree in
psychology from
Columbia University
and was a research
assistant and office
manager for Alexander
Grinstein, a well
known psychoanalyst
in Det-roit. She was
Edith Polk
also an office manager
for Lakewood Clinic.
Mrs. Polk is survived
by her daughter, Donna Lipson of Ohio;
sons and daughter-in-law, Richard and
Eileen Polk of Huntington Woods,
Jonathan Polk of Waterford; grandchil-
dren, Binyomin and Carin Lipson, Joshua
Lipson, Samuel Polk, Brian Polk, Laura
Polk; great-grandchildren, Batya, Rachael
and Moshe Lipson; sisters, Betty Garr of
New Jersey, Ruth Chertkov of Maryland;
brother and sister-in-law, Robert and
Thelma Kirby of New York; brothers-in-

She was the beloved wife of the late
Samuel S. Polk; dear sister-in-law of the
late Sylvia Strauss, the late Alexander

2002. Mr. Ryke was a World War II vet-

Ryke of Denver, Colo., Judy and Bobby
Graff of Troy, Nancy Ryke of Pueblo

ADELE SCHLAFER, 97, of Southfield,
died Nov. 5, 2002. She was a teacher at
Grosse Pointe High School. She was also a
the regional president of Women's
American ORT, a lifelong member of
Temple Beth El and in the late 1930s and
beyond, was very active bringing refugees
from Europe.
Mrs. Schlafer is survived by her daugh-
