ewish teen athletes from the metropolitan
Detroit area participated in JCC Maccabi
Games in Nebraska, Maryland, Ontario
and Massachusetts this month.
The following results were reported by the
coaches or delegation heads. More results will be
published Sept. 6.

Omaha, Aug. 4-9

Ann Arbor sent 22 athletes to the games in
Omaha. The team earned 18 medals. In swim-
ming, Amit Harris earned four gold medals, five
silver and two bronze.
In age 13-14 boys basketball, the following Ann
Arbor players teamed with boys from Austin,
Texas, to win the bronze medal: David Haber,
Adam Metzendorf, Albie Silverman, Ben Kellman,
Jonathan Fox.
In age 15-16 boys basketball, Adam Feinberg, Ben

Margolis, Michael Hern end Marc Linden teamed
with Portland, Ore., players to in the bronze.
In dance, Eric Riba and Erin Margolis won a
gold and a bronze.
In tennis doubles, Rachel Fisher won a silver medal.
In golf, Max Rebner won a gold medal in the
scramble and Alex Moyer won gold in Flight B.

Baltimore, Aug. 11-16

Detroit Table Tennis: Coach Roger Black report-
ed very tough international competition, with
teams from Australia, Great Britain and Mexico.
The Detroit team of eight players was very com-
petitive, considering four of the eight were first-
time Maccabi athletes.
Andy Korby finished 4th in the boys 13-14 sin-
gles competition, just missing a medal. Korby's
play was marvelous, considering he is a first-year
player. Josh Karchin and Mike Yashinsky finished

4th in boys 13-14 consolation doubles. Josh
Cohen was second and Dan Wolfe third in the
boys 15-16 singles consolation round. Sam
Yashinsky and Josh Cohen finished first in the
boys 15-16 doubles consolation round.
Detroit volleyball: Coach Ken Bertin reported
that after the round robin the Detroit-1 team was
seeded third in its division with a .500 record. It
defeated Seattle and Baltimore (Black) and lost to
Houston-1 and Rochester/Richmond.
Detroit-1 played Baltimore (Red), the eventual
bronze medalist, in the first round of the playoffs.
Detroit played exceptionally well, but lost 20-25
and 23-25. In the consolation match, the team lost
to Rochester/Richmond 25-16, 22-25, 12-15.
Amanda Ossipove and veterans Brittani Schwartz
and Stephanie Rosenbioom provided experience to
make the team competitive. Lisa Goode, Hannah
Miller provided strong blocking while Captain
Lauren Elkus was the playmaking setter.
Newcomers Alyssa Gale and Allyson Rice con-
tributed as well.
Detroit-2, after finishing fourth in their divi-
