Seniors Concert
As part of its continuing effort to
promote summertime study on
Israel, Eilu v' Eilu, the adult Jewish
learning project of the Michigan
Conservative movement, is offering
for sale copies of the 1967 book
Music of the Big Band era will be
played at Temple Beth El's sixth annu-
al seniors' concert, "Those Were the
Days," 3 p.m. Sunday, July 14.
Local seniors are invited to be
guests, with residents of nursing.
homes and senior facilities especially
welcome.
The 17-member Big Band
Express, with vocalist Denise
Stevens, and the Temple Dancers
will be featured in a program of
music made famous by Count Basie,
Les Brown, Benny Goodman, Glenn
Miller and Harry James.
The group also will play jazz and
contemporary tunes along with
music written by the band mem-
bers.
Big Band Express has been
together for 30 years though the
only original member is Richard
Cywinski, alto sax and business
manager. The newest addition to the
group is conductor-trombonist Mike
Rumbell, a school music teacher in
Northville and Plymouth.
The Sally and Harry Nosanchuk
Family Caring Community Fund of
Temple Beth El is sponsor of the
free concert. Admission tickets are

Joshua Heschel in the days immedi-
ately following the Six Day War and
recently republished as a classic
reprint in paperback by Jewish
Lights Publishing.

Lois Freeman was installed pres-
ident of the Beth Elders of
Temple Beth El on June 18.
This is the third term for the
native Detroiter.
An assistant head usher and
sisterhood's corresponding sec-
retary, she is a past co-chair of
the sisterhood's Party Planning
Showcase and the temple's YoM
Kippur Break Fast. She is a for-
mer member of the temple's
nominating and music commit-
tees, a past sisterhood vice pres-
ident and former docent corn-
mittee chair.
Installed with Freeman were
Sybil Hoffman, first vice presi-
dent; Elaine Brockman, second
vice president; Jeannette
MacWilliams, recording secre-
tary; Laura Wise, corresponding
secretary; Hy Frank and
Gordon Seedberg, treasurers;
and program chairs, Renee
Jablonski and Clement
Weitzman. Newly elected board
members include Fran Aaron,
Harriet Burnstein, Ruth Fox,
Milton Jansky, Doris Kushner,
Hermina Leib, Phyllis Marks,
Rolly Rogers and Lee Waldbott.
B'nai Moshe Adds
Education Head
Congregation B'nai Moshe hired
Daniella HarPaz Mechnikov as the
new director of education. She comes
to B'nai Moshe with extensive educa-
tional experience and fluency in both
Hebrew and Yiddish.
A native Detroiter, Mechnikov is
an alumni of
Hillel Day SChool
of Metropolitan
Detroit and the
University of
Michigan, and a
teacher at both U-
M and Brandeis
University in
Waltham, Mass..

ming and will work on programming
for all members and all ages at the
