Yad Ezra Slates
Open House
Yad Ezra will host an open house 3-5
p.m. Sunday, June 30, in honor of the
dedication of the Meer Family
Building, 2850 W. 11 Mile Road,
Berkley, and in recognition of the
kosher food bank's volunteers and
board of directors.
Thanks to the generosity of the
Meer family, individual donors and
family foundations that have con-
tributed to Yad Ezra's capital cam-
paign and a grant from the Kresge
Foundation, Yad Ezra moved into a
renovated warehouse that serves client
families, volunteers and staff. The new
building has a client waiting room,
private intake rooms, a volunteer mul-
tipurpose room, a conference room,
parking and private office space.
The organization provides kosher
groceries for 1,100 needy families rep-
resenting 2,400 individuals every
month. This year, Yad Ezra will dis-
tribute 750,000 pounds of food to
impoverished families in the commu-
nity. A corps of 125 volunteers and
board members come weekly to Yad
Ezra's warehouse to ensure that the
food pantry continues its mission of
feeding the hungry in a dignified and
caring manner.
Volunteer activities include escort-
ing clients through the warehouse to
pick up their food, stocking and
shelving food, making deliveries to
those who are homebound, doing
clerical and data entry work in the
office.
In addition to honoring capital
campaign donors and thanking the
volunteers and board members, the
organization will present the. Diane
and Emery Klein Volunteer
Recognition Award to a volunteer
whose commitment to Yad Ezra is
unsurpassed.
