Bar/Bat Mitzvah
Alana Rey Balbes will read from
the Torah on the occasion of her
bat mitzvah
Friday, June 14, at
Temple Israel. Her
parents are Pamela
and Barry Balbes
and her brother is
Jake. She is the
grandchild of
Henry Balbes, the
late Selma Balbes,
Marilyn and Paul
Silverstein and the late A. Richard
Silverman. Proud great-grandmoth-
er is Rose Goldstein.
Alana attends Berkshire Middle
School in Birmingham, where she is
an honor student. Among her many
interests, she particularly enjoys
dancing, the computer, softball and
attending Camp Tamakwa in
Canada. It was very meaningful for
her to volunteer at Yad Ezra in
Berkley.
Stephanie Rachel Baum will
become a bat mitzvah on Saturday,
June 15, at
Temple Israel. Her
parents are
Paulette and John
Baum and her
brother is Andrew.
She is the grand-
child of Joan and
John Baum and
Shirley Radin and
the late Jules
Radin.
An all-A student at Walled lake
Middle School, Stephanie is inter-
ested in computers, dance, playing
the piano and spending summers at
Camp Walden in Cheboygan.
Volunteering at the Denby
Orphanage in Detroit was particu-
larly meaningful to her.
