he little day school that began
with 14 boys is now bursting
at the seams with more than
300 students. At the 16th
anniversary banquet for Yeshivas Darchei
Torah June 3 at Ramada Hotel in
Southfield, plans were announced for a
new boys' facility to be built on 10 Mile,
a few blocks east of Greenfield in Oak
Park.
The girls' division, which runs
through 12th grade, would remain at
the 12 Mile and Lahser building in
Southfield, currently shared by the entire
student body.
The dinner program for 300 parents,
grandparents and other supporters of the
Orthodox day school included a video
of school activities, a performance by the
Yeshivas Darchei Torah Choir and award
presentations to honorees Alex Saltsman
of Oak Park and Gerald and Eileen
Borsand of Bloomfield Hills.
"Mr. Al" Saltsman, known for his
philanthropic support of Jewish causes
both locally and in Israel, received the
Bonei Torah (Builder of Torah) Award.
Close friend Emanuel Mittelman, who
presented the award, described Saltsman
as "a good investor — he invests in
building shuls, yeshivahs, Jewish institu-
tions and Yid4ishkeit [Jewishness]."
