For Tutoring
The Detroit Jewish Coalition for
Literacy (DJCL) is recruiting alum-
ni of Winship Elementary School in
Detroit for a new volunteer tutoring
program.
The Friends of Winship School
will hold its first planning meeting
5:30 p.m. Thursday, June 13, at the
Max M. Fisher Federation Building
in Bloomfield Township. The group
is developing on ongoing literacy
program for students in grades k-3
in partnership with the DJCL. An
orientation meeting for summer
tutors will be held 9:30 a.m.
Wednesday, June 19, at the school.
Volunteers will meet with Winship's
Principal Dr. Ealy and tour the
school.
Founded and facilitated by the
Jewish Community Council, the
DJCL has 29 member organizations
with 370 volunteers participating in
literacy programs in 34 schools in
Detroit and Oakland County and
other project sites. Chaired by
JCCouncil board member Ellie
Slovis and SallyJo Levine, the DJCL
is an affiliate of the National Jewish
Coalition for Literacy (NJCL).

The Grodman Cure Foundation was established to find a cure for insulin dependent diabetes by the parents of Adam and
Jared Grodman, when the two boys were diagnosed with the disease.Today, the foundation helps improve the quality of life
for countless children afflicted with childhood diseases, and every step you take is one step closer to finding a cure!
Registration begins at 9:00 AM, followed by the Run/Walk and lunch.

The Kresch children, Simon and
Ruchy Kresch, Ari and Lin Kresch,
Judy and Zelig Schur and Eddie and
Susie Kresch, also will be marking
the occasion by sponsoring a
Scholar-in-Residence weekend at the
Young Israel of Oak Park this sum-
mer in their honor.
