Brandeis Lauds
Zeltzers' Gift

West Bloomfield residents George
"Mike" and Pearl Zeltzer have donat-
ed $300,000 to the Brandeis
University libraries in Waltham,
Mass.
The gift will go to Brandeis'
Library Technology Endowment
Fund in Judaica as well as the Center
for Instructional Media and
Technology. A plaque bearing the
Zeltzers' names will be unveiled at
the dedication and displayed within
the
Judaica
Library at
Brandeis.
The
Zeltzers,
longtime
supporters
of
Brandeis,
Pearl and George Zeltzer
have his-
torically
been at the forefront of fund-raising
activities launched by the Brandeis
University National Women's
Committee.
Pearl Zeltzer became a member of
the Brandeis University National
Women's Committee soon after it was
founded in 1948. She joined the com-
mittee because she was dedicated to
contributing to the success of the
fledgling school. She served as treasur-
er of the Detroit chapter and the
committee's midwest region.
Mike Zeltzer, also a supporter of
Sholem Aleichem Institute, is a for-
mer president of the Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit.
Kathleen Craig Brittan, executive
director of the Brandeis University
National Women's Committee, noted
that the Zeltzers' gift reflects their
strong belief in the importance of
endowments and their passion for
technology and the study of Judaism.
Brandeis will use the Zeltzers' gift to
develop an endowment for libraries
of the future — linking libraries,
technologies and teaching. Brandeis
students and faculty will have access
to a collection of information per-
taining to all aspects of Jewish histo-
ry, religion and culture.
The national women's committee, a
volunteer organization with 45,000
members in 96 chapters, has played a
major role in supporting Brandeis'
library system. The committee has
contributed almost $80 million to the
libraries at Brandeis.
