JCC Carnival Aids
Community Causes

Two humanitarian causes will benefit
from the birthday bash and family car-
nival co-sponsored by the Jewish
Community Center of Metropolitan
Detroit and the Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit's Neighborhood
Project. Activities will take place, rain
or shine, from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, June
9, at the JCC in Oak Park.
Kicking off the festivities at 1 p.m.
will be the cutting of "the biggest
birthday cake in the neighborhood."
The cake is free, and kosher snacks
will be available for purchase. The
JCC is 75 years old.
Proceeds from the sale of the snacks
will be given to the Jewish Federation
of Metropolitan Detroit's Israel
Emergency Campaign, a fund-raising
appeal that benefits humanitarian needs
in Israel. Donations will go toward pro-

grams for youth and teens-whose lives
have been impacted by the recent ter-
rorist attacks, supportive communities
for older adults, assistance for new
immigrants to Israel from Argentina,
and emergency relief for victims of ter-
rorism and their families.
Additionally, A Small Miracle will
be accepting donations of new chil-
dren's books or unopened toys at the
event. A Small Miracle is an organiza-
tion devoted to assuring that individu-
als in the Jewish community have the
joy of receiving gifts during holidays
and life-cycle events.
Admission is free to the public cele-
bration and volunteers are still needed
to handle a variety of tasks during the
afternoon.
For information or to volunteer, call
the Oak Park JCC, (248) 967-4030.
