Adat Shalom
Lauds Students

The Adat Shalom family will honor
its confirmation and graduation
classes of 2002 at Nosh 'n Drash
Shabbat Friday evening, May 24.
Confirmation students will lead
Shabbat services beginning at 6 p.m.
A Shabbat dinner will follow.
Beginning at 8:15 p.m., the gradu-
ates will present a program on the
importance of Jewish education.,
The high school students will be
called to the bimah in acknowledge-
ment of this year's study, and both
graduating seniors and confirmands
will receive special recognition.
Nosh `n Drash is Adat Shalom's
Monday evening dinner-activities-
education program for high school
students. It is endowed by Lillian
Wine and family in memory of
Irving Wine. The confirmation pro-
gram is endowed by the Knopper
family in memory of Judith Lowe
Knopper. A special oneg Shabbat
will follow the service.

Emanu-El Honors
Euni, Cantor Rose

Temple Emanu-El will honor Cantor
Norman and Euni Rose on their 30th
anniversary
with the
synagogue
at a concert
7:30 p.m.
Sunday,
May 18.
The per-
formance is
part of the
yearlong
The Roses
celebration of
the 50th anniversary of the founding of
the temple. A permanent gift will be
dedicated in their honor.
The concert will feature the quartet
Swingset, along with vocalist Susan
Chastain, playing jazz and pop classics
of the 1920s-1940s. The quartet con-
sists of Mike Karoub, jazz cellist; James
Dapogny, jazz pianist; bassist Kurt
Krahnke; guitarist Rod McDonald.
The Roses came to Temple Emanu-
El in 1972 from Buffalo. The cantor, a
tenor, was ordained at the Hebrew
Union College School of Sacred Music.
He has prepared the religious school
students for their bar and bat mitzvot.
Euni led the youth choir for 22 years.
She now teaches at the temple religious
school and sings in the adult choir.

JTS Gala Hears
Dr. Scheindlin

The annual Jewish Theological
Seminary of America gala is sched-
uled for Thursday, May 30, at Adat
Shalom Synagogue. Proceeds will go
for student scholarships.
This year's Sybil
Goldman Memorial
speaker will be Dr.
Raymond R.
Scheindlin, whose
topic will be "A
Jewish View of
Islam-Post Sept. 11."
Dr. Scheindlin will
speak not only from
Dr. Raymond
his formal back-

ground as a leading
scholar on medieval
Judaism and Islam,
but also his experience with the
New York State Attorney General's
Task Force on terrorism. Doris
Blechman and Sharon Gene are din-
