Jewish Community
Council of
Metropolitan Detroit's
annual meeting to be
held 7:30 p.m.
Tuesday, May 21, at
Congregation Shaarey
Zedek Southfield. ,
Nolan Finley, edito-
rial page editor of the
Detroit News, will
Nolan Finley
examine the meeting's
theme in his keynote
address. The evening will feature the
presentation of the 2002 Activist of the
Year Award to Elaine C. Driker, the
- founding co-chair of the Detroit Jewish
Initiative, with a personal introduction

by Butch Hollowell, a Detroit attorney
and developer. During the program the
Walter E. Klein Youth Award will be
awarded.
Finley has been at the helm of the
Detroit News editorial board since May
2000 and has been an outspoken sup-
porter of Israel's right to defend itself.
He directs the expression of the news-
paper's editorial position on various
national and local issues and writes a
Sunday column.
Council's election of officers and
board of directors will take place during
the program, which will be followed by
a dessert reception. There is no charge

JCC's Annual Meeting On June 19

The Jewish Community Center of
Metropolitan Detroit will hold its annu-
al meeting 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June
19, at the JCC in West Bloomfield. A
dessert reception will begin at 7.
Sponsored by Bank One Foundation,
the evening will include the installation
of officers and members of the board of
directors and the presentation of the
President's Award and Susan Alterman
JCC Leadership Awards.
This year's meeting also will see the
dedication of the Milk & Honey of
West Bloomfield by JCC Past President
Hugh Greenberg and Carolyn
Greenberg.
Nominated as officers are president,
Sharon Hart; chair, executive commit-
tee, Lawrence Wolfe; vice presidents,
Miriam Bergman, Hannan Lis, Ken
Marblestone and Terry Nosan; treasurer,
Marc Kahn; secretary Gerald Wolberg;
members at large, Irwin Alterman,

William Eisenberg and Todd Sachse.
Nominated for a first three-year term
on the board, ending 2005, are Robert
Berlow, Donna Friedman-Wise, Dr.
Irvin Kappy, Sharon Lipton, Susan
Marwil, Marjorie Krasnick, Dr. Andrea
Nakisher, Marc Schechter and Brian
Siegel.
Named-for a second three-year term,
ending 2005, are Steven Block, Ben
Forta, David Goodman, Mindy Soble
Kaufman, Brad Urdan, Debbie Levin,
Steven Robinson, Cheri Victor and
An di Wolfe.
Nominated to fill an unexpired sec-
ond three-year term, ending in 2003, is
Mark Wagner.
Morton Collins will be cited for dis-
tinguished service to the agency

JFS Forum Theme Is Volunteerism

"Enriching Your Life Through
Volunteerism... Without Losing
Control!" is the focus of the Jewish
Family Service annual meeting 7:30
p.m. Wednesday, June 5, at Adat
Shalom Synagogue.
The evening will begin with a
dessert reception followed by recogni-
tion of employee and volunteers of the
year and keynote address by Carol
Weisman, author, trainer and consult-
ant.
Weisman, president of Board
Builders, specializes in volunteerism,

fund-raising and governance. She has
served on 24 boards and presided over
seven. She won a Telly Award for her
PBS special "Building a Board with a
Passion for Mission."
Jewish Family Service provides
social and mental health services to
adults, children and families, includ-
ing a full line of support services for
older adults.
