tionship with them," said Gad-Harf.
"Of course, our leverage is enhanced
in districts where there is a Jewish
population."
He added, "We don't give up on"
the representatives who voted against
the May 2 pro-Israel resolution. "We
work with them and their staffs.
"We don't excuse their vote. It
serves as a litmus test. Certainly, we're
disappointed."
In separate statements in the
Congressional Record, Dingell, Rivers
and Kilpatrick explained that they
felt the resolution was one-sided and
would not help end the violence in
the Middle East.
Smith and Conyers did not explain
their votes.
Bonior's remarks from the Congressional
Record are re-printed below:

Bonior's Remarks

"Mr. Speaker, I rise in strong opposi-
tion to this resolution.
"This resolution blindly supports
Israel's actions against the Palestinians
and wholly denies the generations of
suffering of the Palestinian people.
This would be wrong at any time,
but in light of what has happened at
Jenin and Bethlehem, Ramallah,
Haifa, Jerusalem and Netanya, and
what continues to happen today, this
resolution is dangerous.

The cantor, who says he does not
have definite plans for the future, says
he will leave the congregation July 1.
"My contract is not valid, so I
don't need stipulations or permission
to stay or leave," he says.
"I love living in this area, and I
want to continue living in the
Detroit community," Cantor Dubov
says. "I would love to open an arts
academy here, in addition to being a
cantor."
Discussions will continue over
whether he has cause to be released
from his contract, based on whether
staff relationship issues were
resolved.
