new cantor. In the meantime, the syna-
gogue's b'nai mitzvah program will con-
tinue under the leadership of teacher
Alan Lowen. The synagogue is firming
up plans for the High Holidays.
"I valued my time at Beth El,"
Cantor Dubov says. "I love the con-
gregants and the families with whom
I've shared many life-cycle events."
May agrees the cantor's rapport with
the congregation has been positive.
"He was certainly special because of
his entertainment background,
extracurricular musical endeavors and
closeness with children," May says.
"Cantor Dubov had an absolutely
excellent, very warm and genuine, rela-
tionship with kids of all ages," he says.
"His Kidz Klez Band is phenomenal
and his Jazz Shabbat program is great."
May also views Cantor Dubov as a
facilitator of bringing tradition to Beth
El worship services.
"He was able to instill an entirely
new dimension in the service at a time
when we, as a Reform congregation,
went through a transition, returning
to tradition," May says.
While May says Cantor Dubov's
programs are unique and successful, he
is certain many of them can continue
without him now that they are in
place. "He made the transition easier,
but once it is made, our members will
be accepting of a cantorial presence
other than him." 0
