community organizations, expanding endowment oppor-
tunities and attracting and maintaining highly qualified
staff members. The Capital and Endowment Campaign,
held in conjunction with the Jewish Federation/United
Jewish Foundation Millennium Campaign, raises more
than $30 million to reinvigorate the JCC as a "Jewish
neighborhood."

1998

Thousands of athletes from the U.S. and abroad
converge in Detroit as the JCC plays host to the JCC
Maccabi Games for the third time.

-2000 The InLine Hockey Center, with a regulation-
size rink and smaller practice rink, opens in the
Rosenberg Recreation Complex in the Kahn Building.

The Center Theater put on many productions at the Curtis and Meyers
Building.

1964 Detroit's JCC conducts the largest adult Hebrew
program and is the first to bring in a shaliach (Israeli
emissary).

1967

The center for Russian acculturation in Detroit,
the JCC holds a midnight vigil on behalf of Soviet Jewry.

1976

The JCC building at Maple and Drake Roads in
West Bloomfield Township opens. It is dedicated as the
D. Dan and Betty Kahn Building in 1998.

Camp Ruth opens to provide children with excit-
ing outdoor summer experiences.

The Handleman Family dedicates the Marion and David
Handleman Hall and Auditorium, also in the Kahn
Building.

-2001 The JCC celebrates its 75th anniversary as the
"center of the community." A newly renovated Sarah and
Irving Pitt Child Development Center opens in the Kahn
Building.

-200,2 Milk & Honey, a kosher, dairy restaurant opens
in the Kahn Building. The JPM Building's social hall gets
a facelift and a new name: the Lester and Jewell Morris
Social Hall. Plans are under way to begin development
of the South Wing of the Kahn Building into an unparal-
leled sports, health and fitness facility.

The excitement of the JCC Maccabi Games
comes to Detroit when the JCC welcomes Jewish athletes
from all over the world for sports competitions.
