will be the focus of a six-session
series led by Dr. Jill Syme and Rabbi
Daniel Syme of Temple Beth El.
The series is titled "Children
Estranged From Their Parents:
Personal and Jewish Perspectives"
and will be held May 6-20 and June
3-17 from 7:30-9 p.m. at the tem-
ple. There is no charge.
Those attending will have the
opportunity to share their stories
with others with similar experiences.
Biblical relations will serve as a
backdrop for discussion.

pants should plan to attend all six

Woman's World 2002 at
Congregation Shaarey Zedek
Tuesday, April 30, will feature Rabbi
Dov Peretz
Elkins, co-author
of Chicken Soup

for the Jewish
Soul.
Rabbi Elkins is
the spiritual
leader of the
Jewish Center of
Princeton, N.J.
Woman's
World 2002 will
begin with a con-
tinental breakfast Rabbi Elkins
at 10 a.m. and a
collection of boutiques.
Rabbi Elkins will speak at 11:30
a.m. in the sanctuary. A luncheon
will follow. After lunch, the bou-
tiques will re-open and Rabbi Elkins
will be available to autograph copies
of his book.
A dessert reception in honor of
Rabbi Elkins will take place
Monday, April 29, at 8 p.m. at the
home of Jacqui and Larry Elkus.
Silver ($118), gold ($218), platinum
($318) and diamond ($418) patrons
are invited to attend the evening
program.
Woman's World 2002 co-chairs are
Miriam Goldberg and Ida Goutman.

Daniel Pipes
Slates Talk

Daniel Pipes, director of the Middle
East Forum, columnist for the New
York Post and Jerusalem Post and fre-
quent contributor to the Jewish News,
will be the speaker at 7:30 p.m.
Shabbat services at Temple Beth El on
May 3.
A specialist on the Middle East, he
will speak on "Islam Today in America
and Abroad."
A graduate of Harvard University in
Cambridge, Mass., where he earned a
Ph. D. in history, Pipes spent six years
studying abroad, including three in
Egypt. He has taught at the University
of Chicago, Harvard University and
the U.S. Naval War College. He served
in the Departments of State and
Defense. He now serves on the Special
Task Force on Terrorism Technology at
the Department of Defense.
Pipes is the temple's 2002 Bargman
Scholar; his lecture is being underwrit-
ten by the Theodore and Mina
Bargman Foundation.

B'nai Moshe
Lauds Members

Congregation B'nai Moshe honored six
of its members as Volunteers of the
Year on April 13, during Shabbat serv-
ices. Lynne Avadenka, Dr. Richard
Herman, Nancy Kaplan, Laurie
Novetsk-y, Seymour Ungar and Jodi
Weinfeld were honored.
Avadenka was noted for her artis-
tic contributions, dedication to the
morning minyan and involvement
on the ritual and house committees;
Herman for service on the education
committee, assuming responsibility
for the Shalom Ralph museum dis-
play and for cataloging all the con-
gregation's museum pieces; Kaplan
for devotion to the adult education
programs and the public relations
function of the congregation;
Novetsky for dedication as co-chair
of the bikkur cholim (visiting the
sick) committee; Ungar for dedica-
tion and involvement on many syna-
gogue committees; Weinfeld for
development and commitment to the
Mocha Moments program, member-
ship committee and interest in the
junior congregation.
Rabbi Pachter recognized the hon-
orees from the bimah and each
received a certificate of achievement.
