but has already taken the lead in the
sale of whitefish ... going through
1,000 pounds a week ... Amazing!
NONE OF THE usual traditional
kosher Jewish food is on the menu
at Matt Prentice's new Milk &
Honey restaurant that recently
opened at the Jewish Community
Center in West Bloomfield.
Instead are creative vegetarian and
fish dishes influenced by cuisines of
the world ... wild mushroom cas-
soulet, sea bass with pistachio and
"painted" with papaya and blackber-
ry sauces, corn and fingerling potato
chowder with poblano salsa, etc.
Although kosher restaurants are
many times expensive because kosher
products seem to cost more, most of
the items on Milk & Honey's lunch
menu are $6.95 ... At dinner, the
most expensive item is Ahi Tuna with
leek and artichoke fondue, celery-
whipped potatoes and ginger carrot
sauce at $19.95 ... Potato-crusted
whitefish, tomato basil beurre blanc
and fresh seasonal vegetables is
$14.95 ... Eggplant and portabella
mushroom lasagna with goat cheese,
tomato, root vegetables and portabel-
la Bolognese, served with mesclun
salad, is $11.95.
A KOSHER PASSOVER barbecue
buffet? ... That's the annual all-you-
can-eat feast by Sperber's Kosher
Catering, now owned by Meyer
Cohen ... It's Sunday, March 31, 5:30
p.m., at Congregation B'nai Moshe on
Drake in West Bloomfield ... and
Monday, April 1, 6 p.m., at
Congregation Beth Ahm, on Maple in
West Bloomfield ... Passover hot dog
buns, hot dogs, chicken or salmon
steak, hamburgers, etc.
KORN KORNER ... As Moses and
the children of Israel were cro s sing
through the parted Red Sea, he began
to hear cries of how thirsty they were
after walking so far.
Unfortunately, the water was salty
and not drinkable ... Miraculously, a
fish appeared from the wall of water
and told Moses that she and her fami-
ly heard the pleas of the people ... and
would remove the salt from the water
by passing it through their gills and
forcing it out of their mouths ... The
water would be fresh like a fountain
from which the Israelites could drink
as they walked by.
Moses accepted this kindly offer.
To remember the miracle of the fish
who transformed salt water to fresh
water, Moses let it be known that
hence forth, the seder to honor the
Exodus would always include, "Gill
Filter Fish." ❑
