South Haven.
During the night a very irate guest
came down to the front desk and the
clerk asked, "What's eating you now?"
... The guest yelled back while scratch-
ing himself all over, "That's what I'd
like to know!"
IT WAS ALMOST like being invit-
ed for a vacation ... when Mel Ball
took wife Gail to his recent job in
Florida.
• Mel's gig with his band, Colours,
was to celebrate the opening of former
localites, Mark and Joan Silbert's
sumptuous 40-million-dollar home in
Palm Beach ... 50 acres on the ocean ...
with dancing at the party held by their
large swimming pool, going past 4
a.m.
Mel, by the way, has completed his
musical play and book, The Fourth
Factor ... which is expected to go-into
production within six weeks.
REUNION DEPT For more info
on the coming 1953 Detroit Central
High 50-year shindig, Aug. 30, 2003
... call Bernice Betman, (248) 737-
5773.
THEIR OWN interpretations of
four culinary steak classics have been
added to the Morton's of Chicago
menu in Southfield ... Steak au Poivre,
New York strip sirloin topped with a
five-peppercorn cognac cream sauce ...
Filet Oscar, topped with jumbo lump
crabmeat, fresh asparagus and bear-
naise sauce ... Sliced sirloin, served
with sauteed peppers and onions and a
roasted garlic sauce ... Filet Diane,
topped with sauteed mushrooms in a
mustard demi-glace sauce.
WITH THE RUMOR said to-be
false about Cheesecake Factory coming
here ... it's a shame, because the restau-
rant operation is a very good one.
In the late 1940s, community-ite
Evelyn Overton opened a little cheese-
cake shop in Detroit, gave up the shop
and moved her bakery to Evelyn and
hubby, Oscar's basement ... continuing
to sell the cheesecakes to local restau-
rants.
The couple then decided to move
with their young children, David and
Renee, to Beverly Hills, Calif. ... Oscar
did the selling ... and Evelyn the bak-
ing ... The West Coast loved her
cheesecake and their reputation grew.
