warehouse ... with a 4,000 square foot
freezer ... in Westland.
For the past 30 years it has made its
own excellent Greek salad dressing ...
but only since 1980 has it been sold,
regular or light, in 16-ounce bottles ...
and available only at the Leo's locations.
When Leo and Pete started the Leo's
Coney Island chain, their only thought
was for both to make a living ... To say
the least, they have certainly done this
and much more.
Total sales in 2001 was about $16
million, which is truly something con-
sidering the small ticket items sold ...
Farmington Souvlaki on Orchard Lake
Rd., was number one ... Leo's on
Haggerty in West Bloomfield, second
... Southfield Coney Island and

Souvlaki on Nine Mile, third ... and
Leo's on Telegraph and Maple in
Bloomfield Township, fourth.
Hours at all the stores are Monday-
Saturday, 8 a.m.-10 p.m. ... Sunday,
9 a.m.- 9 p.m.
Leo and Pete may have reached the
$16 million mark in low-priced items
sales, but there's much more ahead for
the men who came here from Greece ...
without being able to speak English ...
and turned their hard work into an
empire.
In 2002, plus Taylor, will also be a
second Livonia location ... Then two
more in 2003 ... with expectations to
open two each year ... all with booths
only in the average 120 or thereabouts
seating capacities.
It is noteworthy that Leo's Coney
Island and their other-named restau-
rants have maintained quality opera-
tions that use only major brand food
products for its low-priced menu selec-
tions.
If this is Leo's formula for success ...
it certainly has been the right call.
ON HAND TO DO the home-
cooking at the Tringale's New York
Pizzeria & Deli ... slated to open the
latter part of February ... will be
Marion Tringale, owner Gary Tringale's
mother ... Folks will be glad to know
that they will include her noted lasagna
and mostaccioli ... and Mama Tringale's
fat-free and low-fat cheese cake.
On the deli side, Gary and wife,
Joanne, have been testing Jewish deli-
catessen ... en route to having oversized
sandwich selections at prices they say
will bring many smiles ... among a host
of other deli products.
Tringale's New York Pizzeria & Deli
will be on 12 Mile Road, at the former
Steamer's restaurant site east of Orchard
Lake Road.
