BBYO Regional Convention drew
a crowd, and a new champion.

Youth Organization's most distinguished chapter at
Regional Convention had to end some time and it hap-
pened last month.
Al Jolson AZA overtook Kishon at the talent show with "A
Jolson Wedding," a reenactment of a traditional Jewish wedding,
complete with Hebrew melodies sung by chapter members,
instrumental music and dancing. A Jolson member even took the
role of the bride.
The talent show, held at Congregation Shaarey Zedek, was a
standing-room-only event.
Jolson also won the banner, oratory, doubles table tennis, song, T-
shirt/sweatshirt and whirlyball competitions at the annual December
school-break event, based at the West Bloomfield Jewish
Community Center.
Achayot BBG won most distinguished BBG chapter, winning
10 events, including talent show, handicrafts, literature, oratory,
dOubles and singles table tennis, quiz bowl, storytelling and T-
shirt/sweatshirt.
Achayot and Ruach BBG tied for first in the banner compe-
tition. Hank Greenberg AZA and Ruach BBG received honor-
able mention. •
Judges evaluated individual and chapter entries in each event
through a point system.
The Regional Convention attracted 364 BBYO teens from metro-
politan Detroit and Ann Arbor. Convention coordinators were Scott
Lachman of Jolson AZA and Stephanie Persin of Savage BBG. A
new award for most spirited chapter, chosen by Lachman and
Persin, was given to Hank Greenberg AZA
In addition to competitions, BBYO members participated in a
community service project and social activities. Fl
