Redstone's own international-style red
brick and glass block home in north-
west Detroit is an advertisement for his
theme of humanizing the living envi-
ronment.
Next to his own corner house, he
designed a home for his brother Sol,
and the home next to that for another
close friend. The garages were street
accessible, and the three traditional
back yards without fences were merged
and surrounded by a brick wall that
transformed the area into an elegant
park for the children and a place for
adult parties, meetings and for cele-
brating holidays.
A wading pool with sculptor Sam
Cashwan's snails at each end decorated
the center. Redstone and Ruth watched
their own children grow up and play in
this environment and, with delight,
have watched their grandchildren play
in the same protected area.
