n a place of firsts, the brand new Norma Jean
and Edward Meer Jewish Apartments in West
Bloomfield welcomed its first magician and
served its first trays of latkes as its residents
played host at the annual Jewish Apartments and
Services (JAS) Chanukah parry.
"Other than the Meers' dedication, this was the
first event held (there) since residents started mov-
ing in Nov. 21," says Esther Winer, JAS community
outreach coordinator.
She planned the event for 250 partygoers.
Joining Meer residents were their next door neigh-
bors from the Lillian and Samuel Hechtman Jewish
Apartments and those residing in the Anna and Meyer Prentis
and the Harriett and Ben Teitel Jewish Apartments in Oak Park.
"For many of them, this was the first time they were able to
see the new Meer building," Winer says.
Instead of the balloon centerpieces typical to the yearly parry,
she decorated the tables with baskets of fresh fruit and other
kosher food items that doubled as door prizes.
. Guests of the Dec. 9 celebration were joined on the dance
floor by B'nai B'rith Youth Organization members from
Kitzoni and Jolson AZA and Achayot, Brice and Zahav 410
B'nai B'rith Girls and students from the Jewish Academy of
Metropolitan Detroit.

at parties and other events, contact Esther Winer at (248)
