Israel Fellowships
Open to Students
Applications are now available for
the 2002 Bronfman Youth
Fellowships in Israel. The fellow-
ships offer an opportunity for 26
students entering the 12th grade to
spend five weeks in Israel this sum-
mer.
Fellows will be chosen on the
basis of character, intellectual inter-
est, special talents and leadership
qualities. In the competitive selec-
tion process, merit, not financial
need, is the standard for selection.
While living in Jerusalem and
traveling throughout the country,
Bronfman Fellows participate in
seminars and dialogues with a
diverse rabbinic faculty and explore
Jewish text against the background
of Israel's land, culture and cus-
toms. They meet with Israel's polit-
ical, cultural and literary figures to
examine contemporary issues in
light of Jewish history and tradi-
tion.
The fellowship program begins
July 8, 2002, with a two-day semi-
nar in New York City. The students
return from Israel Aug. 14. All
meals will be kosher and group
activities on Shabbat will be in
keeping with the sanctity of the
day. All expenses are covered by the
program, including roundtrip
international transportation, room
and board and travel while in
Israel. The program maintains an
extremely high level of security.
High school students who will be
in the 12th grade in the fall of
2002 may request an application
