Lauren Elizabeth Kaczander will
become a bat mitzvah on Saturday,
Dec. 15, at Temple Beth El. She is the
daughter of Karen and Bruce
Kaczander and sister of Aaron. Proud

also the grand-
daughter of the late
Ted Kaczander and
the late Sheldon
Brodley.
Lauren attends
Birmingham
Covington School, where she is on the
basketball and swim teams. She enjoys
the Franklin Softball League, spending
summers at Camp Tanuga in Kalkaska
and being with family and friends. For
her mitzvah project, she found it very
meaningful to volunteer with the
Friendship Circle.

Benjamin Ross Morris will be called
to the Torah as a bar mitzvah on
Saturday, Dec. 15, at Adat Shalom
Synagogue. He is the son of Carolyn
and Michael
Morris and brother
of Sammy and
Emmma. Sharing
in the simchah are
proud grandparents
Jeannette and Fred
Sklarchyk and
Ruth and Arnold
Morris.
An honor student at Abbott Middle
School in West Bloomfield, Benjamin
enjoys playing the violin, working
with computers and being with his
friends. He finds it very meaningful to
volunteer and play his violin for resi-
dents of the Jewish Association for
Residential Care (JARC) as well as at
Fleischman Residence in West
Bloomfield.
Dina Pilnits was called to the Torah
as a bat mitzvah on Saturday, Dec. 8,
at Temple Shir Shalom. She is the
daughter of Irina and Michail Pilnits
and sister of Elina. Her grandparents
are Nella and Isaak
Pilnits of Israel.
She is also the
granddaughter of
the late Faina and
Yakov Gelfand.
Dina is a student
at Dunckel Middle
School in
Farmington Hills. She loves reading
and math. She also enjoys participat-
ing in the JCC Maccabi Games, play-
ing volleyball. Dina's mitzvah project
included helping with a second-grade
classroom at Shir Shalom and with a
jewelry class for the elderly at the
Jewish Federation Apartments.
Dustin Matthew Sherman will be
called to the Torah as a bar mitzvah
on Saturday, Dec. 15, at Congregation
Shaarey Zedek Southfield. He is the
son of Larry and Joyce Sherman and
the brother of Jordan, Darrien and
twins Jared and Jolie. Proud grandpar-
ents are Edward and Esther Sherman
and Jack and Belle Borin.
In the tradition of his brother
Jordan before him, Dustin will gradu-
ate as an honor student from Hillel
Day School of Metropolitan Detroit
in Farmington Hills. He is a travel
hockey and travel baseball player, runs
cross-country and is co-captain of the
Hillel basketball team. His mitzvah
projects include helping in Jewish
Association for Residential Care
(JARC) homes, at Dor L'Dor and rais-
ing money for the New York relief
efforts.
Zipporah Leah Waldman was called
to the Torah as a bat mitzvah on
Saturday, Nov. 10, at Congregation
Beth Moses Tefilah in Mt. Clemens.
She joined her proud father, Rabbi
Mordehi Shimone (Mark) Waldman,
who officiated on the bimah.

ther, (Ruth Sarah
Chavah) Robin and
Ron Kuhn, and sis-
ters Etta, Esther
and Shayna Gittel
Waldman. Best
wishes were sent by
brother Avi
Waldman from Central Michigan
University. She is the granddaughter
of the late Etta Pascal Waldman.
Zipporah attends Norup Middle
School in Oak Park. She enjoys play-
ing the viola in music class and in the
school orchestra. Her mitzvah projects
included volunteering/visiting the resi-
dents of Menorah House in Southfield
in conjunction with her school's out-
reach programs.
